“A gorgeous spot to eat tasty food while watching the sea”, this former Victorian lifeboat station has been transformed under Sam Sixton, who launched his local dining empire at the age of 17, back in 1988 (his son Noah is now part of the team). The “casual” menu runs from “wonderful fresh fish and seafood” to “tasty pizzas with both traditional and unusual toppings”.

“Fab pizzas straight from the pizza oven” and “fabulous fish” share top billing at this “converted Victorian lifeboat station” where “you can eat with a view of crashing waves” all year round. It’s a “cosy place in the winter”, while in the summer you may opt to “take away to eat on the beach”.

As per the name, this converted lifeboat station “couldn’t be closer to the beach, and sandy children are made very welcome”; add in “excellent wood-fired pizzas”, “friendly staff” and “well-cooked fresh seafood” and it’s a major hit.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Situated in an old lifeboat station with amazing views. The Seafood Platter for two is wonderful - prawns (2 ways), squid, mussels, sardines & a (well dressed - rarer than you'd think). The smoked mackerel pate is also amazing. Scallops with black pudding were also a hit. Puddings are perfectly fine but not worth skipping the starter for."
