A Grade I listed house from 1487 that was “one of the few buildings in Plymouth to survive WW2 bombing” – Ben and Francesca Palmer’s “delightful” venture delivers “good food at great value”. Top Tip: on Tuesdays the 11-course tasting menu is half price, at £45.

Ben Palmer and his partner Francesca’s attractive venue occupies a 15th century building complete with cute courtyard. There’s an affordable à la carte menu, although options run to an eleven-course tasting offer. Feedback is upbeat on the whole, although one reporter found “a poor experience relative to all the vox pop praise online”. Top Tip: £13 for three courses weekday lunches and early evening.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
