Now in its 49th year and ten years on from the retirement of founder William Beetson, “happily, William’s continues to thrive” as an unusual fishmonger/deli/restaurant, “far away from the sea”. The refurbishment under new owners Ed & Helen Playne “has worked well”, so guests can enjoy “really good fish, always well cooked and nicely presented, but now served in a better space”.

“Excellent fish, in generous portions, and cooked really well” is the highlight you’d hope for at this Cotswolds fishmonger/deli/restaurant – an institution of over forty-five years’ standing, which was given an attractive refit in recent years.

A “very long-established fishmonger/deli/restaurant” that “had a careful makeover” around the time the pandemic hit – hence “the number of outside covers has been increased” on the “lovely terrace”; “unsurprisingly the focus is on fish, which is of excellent quality and provenance”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Happily, William's continues to thrive, and the refurbishment that provided for more covers at the expense of a smaller deli / fishmonger has worked well. Really good fish, always well cooked and nicely presented is the key, but it's now served in a better space. There are some good outdoor tables too."
