Manchester outpost of Liverpool's much-loved, “laid-back” Catalan tapas joint. Like its sister restaurant there is a deli on site with ham carved on the bone and the UK’s largest array of Spanish gins, beers, wines and spirits.
Harden's survey result
“Very pleasant staff and an excellent tapas selection” (also parlayed in a well-stocked downstairs deli) are two good reasons to visit this “consistent” branch of a hit Scouse Spanish/Catalan operation, also recommended as a “good choice before or after a theatre visit”.
“Wonderful tapas” (“pleasant, but not on the same level as El Gato Negro, etc”) is the main attraction at this “very busy” Manc branch of Liverpool’s successful Spanish/Catalan outfit. Downstairs is a bar and “beautiful deli, well-stocked with tempting delicacies”, while the main restaurant is on the first floor.
“New outpost of the popular Liverpool venture” – a “buzzing and vibrant deli and tapas bar in an arcade off Deansgate”. Most reports are of “a successful transfer” with “quality tapas” and “an interesting range of Spanish wines”, but even fans say “it doesn’t reach the giddy heights of El Gato Negro or Evuna” and – in this more competitive restaurant city – critics feel it “lacks any notion of finesse”, or is “OK but nothing special”.
