Basque maestro Josetxo Arrieta’s funky looking three-year-old off Deansgate, lined with eye-catching yellow leather booths, again divides opinion – one former fan feels it’s “lost the plot”, but others vaunt the “excellent” Spanish cuisine (primarily “very good tapas”).
Off Deansgate, Basque chef Josetxo Arrieta’s über-modern (or “rather garish”, depending on taste) two-year-old has already made quite a name for itself. Yet while some fans cite “exceptional” food as proof that it’s “probably the best of the new tapas venues” in town, critics felt that it’s rather “ho hummm-y” – “fine”, but “nothing that captivates”.
“Setting new standards for Iberian cuisine”; despite only opening in late-2014, this “achingly modern” (think yellow banquettes) new spot, off Deansgate, already “enjoys celebrity status” for its “wonderful, fresh and interesting” tapas from a chef “with a real sense of flavour” (Basque maestro Josetxo Arrieta).
