In the soulless environs of Temple, it’s a surprise to discover this stark, stylish Japanese in a new development – the year-old spin-off from a well-established Parisian venture (and ultimately part of one of Japan’s largest fashion houses, Onward). The brand is “famed for their soba noodles which are created on-site, but the sushi and sashimi are also things of real beauty”. Reports are still limited, but such as we have remain ecstatic: “very difficult to fault, from the attentive, elegant service, to the mouthwatering food, to the stunning interiors (and Japanese toilets!)”. STOP PRESS: In summer 2019, the chef who makes the soba-noodles had to return to Paris. The date of his return is currently unknown, and – until he does – the trademark noodles are off the menu.
“Vast” and high-ceilinged newcomer, south of Aldwych, from the Japan-based fashion group Onward, whose stark styling (featuring lots of wood) is at odds with the more prosaic offerings typically found in the slightly featureless environs of Temple. On all accounts, its wide-ranging menu (sushi and sashimi, wagyu beef steaks, soba noodle dishes, tempura …) are “very good” and some would say exceptional: “my Japanese friends say this is London’s best authentic Japanese restaurant”.
