“Not Japanese nor pretending to be” – this Danish fusion-chain offers a suspicious-sounding-but-successful mix of “fancy sushi” with “plenty of other stuff on skewers” (i.e. yakitori ‘sticks’). “Some of the non-traditional additions don’t quite work, but those that do are lovely”; and as a group, “where so many others fail, it delivers well on consistency”. Its “big and spacious”, Scandi-style branches create a “vibrant and exciting” environment too, “but, oh my word, the prices…”

“Scandinavian sushi… sounds odd, but it works!” This Danish chain has proved a perhaps-unlikely hit, praised as “a concept that pays off” with enjoyably “fresh” and “eclectic” food and a “lively” style. “It has gotten much more expensive”, however, in recent times, and ratings have dipped accordingly. At the start of October 2018 they opened their biggest site yet on Chelsea’s King’s Road.

“They come from Denmark (of all places!)” and these large Scandi-Asian-fusion venues serve a “winning combination” of “delicious sushi, beautifully tender sticks of meat, and enjoyable cocktails” to create an “innovative” and “really fun” concept. Even those who say it’s “a bit of a gimmick” and “doesn’t justify the price tag” concede the food’s “quite good”.

“A strange but pleasant mix of Denmark and Japan” – this “fun and buzzy” Danish chain puts a Scandi twist on sushi and yakitori and results from the “bewilderingly long menu” are “beautifully presented and delicious” (if “not cheap”). The original, “aircraft-hangar-sized” branch near Wimbledon Tube remains the best known.
