“The real deal!” This “popular” Bloomsbury chippy – “run by the same family for more than 40 years” – is one of the best in town, certainly of those within striking distance of the West End. “The choice is always good, and simply grilled is a fantastic option”, or fried in matzo meal; and you can round off with “excellent English puddings and custard”. It’s a good idea to book.

A “great institution” – this “very traditional” family-run Bloomsbury chippy is one of the best around the West End, and a safe bet for “good fresh fish, grilled or battered, with proper crisp chips”. “You don’t come here for the ambience” – it’s “had a facelift” but “never really changes… thank goodness!”.

“One of London’s better chippies” – this “traditional family-run” outfit in Bloomsbury remains hugely popular thanks to its big variety of “very fresh, totally reliable fish” (all deep-fried) in “large portions”. It has “generally freshened itself up since the new generation took the reins”, bringing a “slightly smarter ambience and decor”.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Very good fish and chips in sizeable portions. Excellent variety. Swift, friendly service. Handy for hotels on Euston Road and the main line railway stations."
