On a tranquil Hammersmith corner, with a good-sized pavement terrace for the summer months, this attractive and affordable destination makes a useful rendezvous and has the looks of a smart neighbourhood bistro rather than a wine bar. Its neighbouring café, ‘La Cave’, is a popular weekend breakfast spot: “it has the best pastries and head barista Justin is a character”.

This “cheerful” and “enjoyable” Hammersmith haunt carries a good selection of wines and its kitchen offers modern bistro food – but ‘La Cave’, its coffee house, generates the most feedback this year, for its “friendly staff”, “superb coffee” and “the best chocolate brownies”.

A “fantastic wine list”, including “interesting wines by the glass”, is the strong suit at this Hammersmith hub, where verdicts on the “bistro cooking” range from “dependable, with good ingredients” to “OK but rather boring”. Breakfast gets a thumbs-up – “fab baps” and “they remember how you like your coffee”.

A “big terrace on Hammersmith Grove” draws a steady crowd to this “reliable local”, whose “buzzy atmosphere and interesting wine list” make it “a good place for meeting friends” (including for “coffee and pastries” at its adjoining deli). The menu offers a good range from small plates to full meals: but while most reporters see it as a “reliable local”, there is the odd dissenter who feels “if it were run better, it could be brilliant not average”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
