“All the makings of a fun restaurant!” are – say supporters – to be found at Gordon Ramsay’s spectacular pan-Asian destinations, whose original (on Grosvenor Square) was followed up in February 2025 with the launch of a stablemate on the 60th floor of 22 Bishopsgate in the City, for which Gordo is seeking a 24-hour licence (and also by a sibling in Manchester). It’s the City newcomer nowadays that inspires most interest in our survey, and fans love the “beautiful food… cocktails… room” and of course “the amazing views”. Even they can note “service that’s a little hit and miss” though, and predictably there are many who feel “you’re taking a second mortgage for the view”. Meanwhile, the Mayfair branch is notably less well-rated and often judged “overpriced” or plain “disappointing” on account of its “very average food”.

The “buzzing vibe”, DJs and “showmanship of dishes being completed at the table” tends to “overshadow the food and service” at Gordon Ramsay’s “Pan-Asian” joint on the former site of Maze in Mayfair. The “play-safe, please-all Asian menu” runs the gamut from sushi and bao to Korean-spiced black cod and Thai green curry stone bass – “but it lacks real flavour”. “If it’s trying to compete with the likes of Roka and Nobu, it doesn’t… apart from on prices”.

This “loud” Gordon Ramsay-backed venue in Mayfair (on the former site of Maze, long RIP) aims to channel the glam 1930s drinking dens of the Far East and serves a hodgepodge of dishes: from sushi to steak; from salads to seafood. Dreary ratings overall support those who say there are “so many better places to get much better pan-Asian fare”… so it’s just the time to start a roll-out then! with its first, much simpler spin-off – The Lucky Cat Noodle & Bar – taking over a Shoreditch site previously dedicated to chicken and waffles.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
