“An extraordinary restaurant for an extraordinary occasion!” – Up the “beautiful staircase” accessed through Hide Ground (see also), “no expense has been spared in the creation of this exquisite restaurant”, and the “cool” and incredibly spacious first-floor dining room of this Russian-owned yearling provides an impressively luxurious backdrop, “especially if you bag one of the tables facing Green Park”. You can choose from either the six-course or nine-course tasting menu, which comes with a vegetarian alternative (and a shorter, “more affordable” option at lunch) and there’s the “astonishing complement” of “nearby Hedonism Wines’ incomparable 6,000-strong list, as they will run your preferred bottle over if it’s not in the restaurant’s own cellar”. When it comes to Ollie Dabbous’s Scandi-inspired cooking, most reporters feel that “thankfully the food lives up to the posh surroundings”, delivering “precise, light and intriguing” cuisine that’s a “worthy successor to Dabbous”. “Impeccable”, “helpful” and “charming” service adds further to the mood. “OMG it’s oligarch prices” though, leaving doubters – who also feel some plates are a tad “over-engineered” – to conclude that “the biggest impression it leaves is the dent in your wallet!”

“Wow, what a debut!” – this “huge”, two-floor (plus basement bar), glass-fronted opening, on which Russian-owned Hedonism wines have reportedly spent £20m, is the most ambitious new project of 2018, occupying a landmark, 250-cover site “with a great view over Green Park”, which old hands will remember from days of yore as the home of Fahkreldine (long RIP). On the ground floor (‘Hide Below’ – price shown) is an all-day luxurious brasserie, while this first-floor location is dedicated to even finer dining from a six- or nine-course tasting menu (all-in with wine from about £200, with a lighter three-course option available at lunch). Chef-patron “Ollie Dabbous has done it again” with his “exquisite”, “light-with-a-Nordic-touch” cuisine, which “looks fabulous and tastes even better”; and whose “extraordinary attention to detail” matches that of the “stunningly beautiful” interior (which, in an ultra-luxe way, also appears “charming and simple”). At both locations, you can order from the “remarkable wine list”, also with the option of dialling up any of the 6,500 wines stocked by Hedonism’s Mayfair store (keep a clear head though – their most expensive vintages are over £10k!). “Definitely memorable!”

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Some truly excellent food here! Wonderful staff, great atmosphere. The partnership with hedonism is something that really sets this place apart. Great wine by the glass too. The food was beautifully plated and every bite of starter/main was a triumph. Desert was nice but not quite as knock-out as the other courses. "
