Replacing his Spanish restaurant Rambla is this Californian-inspired newcomer, also by Victor Garvey.
Harden's survey result
“A good find for tapas” in “the heart of Soho” – this “good-value Spanish” two-year-old is “ideal for a pre-theatre meal” or a “casual meet-up, rather than somewhere for a relaxed evening”. Barcelona-born chef Victor Garvey has opened and closed a quick succession of ventures – Encant, Sibarita and Barullo, the latter of which only lasted two months earlier this year – with Bar Jaleo scheduled to launch in late 2019.
“Big flavours (and decent-sized portions too)” help inspire only positive reviews for Victor Garvey’s “superb new Catalan venture” in Soho, which delivers “accomplished” cooking and “excellent value for money”. This said, numerous newspaper reviewers have gushed about the place bigtime, and there is the odd caution that “although it’s above average, it’s not quite as exceptional as some well-known critics might wish you to believe”.
Named for Barcelona’s famous restaurant strip, this Soho tapas spot from Victor Garvey opened in October 2017, delivering a Catalan menu in a larger (60 cover) space than his other openings to date, Sibarita and Encant (now RIP).
