Summary

“One of the top gastropubs around” – this backstreet Olympia hotspot is “past its best” according to some age old aficionados, but “the crowds don’t seem to have noticed” as its “buzzing every evening and for Sunday lunch”; “steak is a highlight” of an “interesting” menu.

Summary

This Olympia backstreet gastro-boozer isn’t the stand-out it once was, but it’s still an “eternally reliable” haunt – “an uncomplicated, warming experience” that’s “buzzing every week night”. A recent refurb “has added table reservations, and the food continues good”. Top Menu Tip – “their excellent staple: bavette steak”.

Summary

“Classic, always buzzing gastropub” in the backstreets of Olypmia; its culinary ratings don’t scale the heights they once did, but it still has a large fanclub drawn by its “delicious cooking, from outstanding Sunday roast beef to inventive and daily changing mains”.

Summary

“This archetypal Olympia gastropub has mellowed in recent years” – the sullen service of old has mercifully been ditched, but so has the former promise of excitement, though the food is still “of good quality”.

Have you eaten at The Havelock Tavern?

Owner's description

Opened in 1996 the Havelock Tavern is one of London's original gastro pubs. Unlike many others that have come and gone since, we have changed very little over that time. Rather than become a restaurant in an old pub building, we focus on being a pub that serves really good food. The atmosphere is lively and informal so that anyone can eat, drink and feel at home. We now take bookings for a limited area of the pub.  We are not trying to be sophisticated, but aim to provide you with a good, relaxing time.

Our customers are a good mix of locals and others who have made the journey to spend an afternoon or evening with us. You are just as likely to see a table of mates catching up over a few pints as a couple tucking in to three courses. We don't have any music playing, so the sounds and atmosphere are provided by our guests.

"Everything a gastropub should be. Great food - and more than just the classics. Great beers. Real local buzz. Havelock has it all and even does some table service these days. No complaints."
