After 25 years, this Thai-fusion group is generally regarded as “solid but far from spectacular”. Creator Alan Yau (who also has Wagamama and Hakkasan among his credits) is no longer involved and out-of-town branches in Oxford and Cardiff have closed down, leaving 10 outlets in the London area.

This “cheap ’n’ cheerful” Thai-fusion group (founded in 1999) with its mix of pad thais, curries and other spicy bites maintains a decent fan base and achieved very steady ratings this year. Creator Alan Yau of Wagamama and Hakkasan fame has long since departed and the business has had a bumpy ride, settling down to nine London branches and offshoots in Oxford and Cardiff.

This modern Thai-fusion chain still wins solid ratings for its “great food from an ever-changing menu”, but lack of feedback suggests waning enthusiasm for its nine sites across London. Founded in 1999 by Alan Yau as a follow-up to Wagamama, his global smash hit, it was forced to close its branches outside the capital a few years ago.

“Decent Thai food from a regularly changing menu” has earned solid ratings this year for this chain of communal Asian diners, which has seen improved feedback since the closure of its branches outside London last year. The group was founded over 20 years ago by Alan Yau as the follow-up to his hit creation Wagamama, and has its strongest presence in the West End, where the branches are “a useful pre-theatre pitstop”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
