September 2019: the Picture restaurants in Fitzrovia and Marylebone are closing on October 5th; the owners say "the business is no longer viable".

“Simply presented but expertly prepared taste combinations that just make you want to come back” from a “limited-but-seasonal menu” are at the root of the success of this “relaxed and reliable” duo of Fitzrovia and Marylebone favourites. The chief gripe is that in each case “the interior lacks atmosphere”, but no-one thinks the situation is grievous.
“Together with The Portland, this group has made local dining worthwhile!” – So say Fitzrovia foodies, who applaud the “brilliant selection of small plates, good choice of wine and very friendly service” at these low-key but accomplished ventures, near Broadcasting House and in Marylebone. Even supporters concede that they are “a bit pricey” however, and that “the stripped back interiors and rather hard chairs will not be to everyone’s taste”.
“A bare dining room and small tasting plates – not everyone’s idea of a satisfying formula but to my taste well prepared and interesting!” This low-key but accomplished venture near Broadcasting House can be enjoyed via its tasting menu – “a steal (and marvellous)” – or “two of their small plates is perfect for a quick light bite with friends or for business”. It has a new Marylebone sibling too – one early report says it’s “a really good addition north of Oxford Street”.
