Harden's survey result
Summary
“Assured and friendly service” is a particular plus at Will Lander and Daniel Morgenthau’s “low-key” but engaging corner site in Fitzrovia, whose “informal” but professional approach suits it to a simple business lunch but also to a “perfect, relaxed and unstuffy” meal with friends. There was the odd quibble about creeping prices this year, but practically all reports are of “inventive and surprising” cuisine that’s “always seasonal, unpretentious and utterly delicious”. Interesting wine options too (including reasonable corkage and the option to purchase and take home).
Summary
“Not at all what you would expect from the outside!” – “fabulous flavours and clever cooking abound” at Will Lander and Daniel Morgenthau’s “highly sophisticated” neighbourhood venture, whose understatedly hip premises occupy a deceptively humble-looking corner-site in Fitzrovia. It also features an “exceptional and interesting wine list by glass: I go online after to see what wines I should be buying at home!”

Summary
“Still punching above its weight”, Will Lander & Daniel Morgenthau’s “tiny”, “somewhat hipster” Fitzrovia haunt (sibling to Portland) “has dispensed with its small plates concept and now provides proper starters and main courses”. Fans applaud its “imaginative take on a simple range of ingredients (with results that can be superlative)”; its “limited but intriguing wine list”; and feel that even if it’s “packed” and “noisy” (“lots of hard surfaces”) “that’s not the point” for a “relaxed” and “lovely” place. Overall ratings are blunted, however, by a minority who feel “it’s not terrible, but I hoped for more…”
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
