A ten-minute stroll from the Sheen Gate entrance to Richmond Park, this “pleasant gastropub” with a massive dining conservatory is ideal for a family meal, and “its USP is the small but useful outdoor play area for younger sprogs”. The food is generally of “good quality”, but there’s some dispute as to whether it’s “losing its spark” or “recovering having gone downhill”.

“A popular Sheen gastropub near Richmond Park” with a “charming and stylish” interior, plus “a recently refurbished conservatory and play area for children”. Critics feel the food is “rather ordinary” by comparison with its past best, but most reports say it’s “always reliable”.

A favourite refuelling stop after walks in Richmond Park, Paul Merrett’s “attractive gastropub” – complete with large dining conservatory and “good facilities for children outside” – is a popular destination, serving a “very accessible” menu. Feedback was “uneven” this year, but in August 2017 they announced an impending facelift which seems likely to pep the place back up to form again.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
