A “wealth of wines by the glass” and “tasty nibbles”, help make this growing group of self-service wine bars a “fun way to try a selection of vintages from a multitude of small producers”. At the Battersea Power Station branch’s school you can educate your palate towards Wine & Spirit Education Trust certification and watch wine being made from grapes grown in Oxfordshire and Surrey.

“A great concept” for wine tasting, accompanied by sharing plates of charcuterie, makes this chain of six bars “fun, too” (“once you’ve worked out how it all works!”). “Buy an Oyster-style card, top it up and sample a wide variety of different wines until you find one you just have to fill your glass with. Then repeat”. On the downside, “it’s easy to spend a fortune as none of the wines are cheap”. The latest to open, in Battersea Power Station, is also producing its own wine on the premises.

“A very cool concept” – a 5-store chain providing “an excellent way to while away a few hours”, whereby you “you top up an Oyster-style card and then you’re able to make your way around the room, grabbing yourself samples or large glasses from a vast array of wines”. “Nibble on charcuterie and cheeses and other sharing plates as you go” but “while the food is good, it’s really all about the vino”.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
