“You can’t beat the roast dinner – the meat is always perfect and with delicious side dishes too” – at this Canonbury gastropub, which provides a “great carnivorous treat”. Ingredients are taken seriously: meat is brought in weekly (whole carcasses, butchered in-house) and Cornish fish is delivered daily. The pub side of the operation is not neglected either, with 80 beers in stock (20 on tap) and a list of wines only from small family-owned vineyards. It’s one of four in the Noble Inns chain.

This “very busy (booking is essential)” gastropub in Canonbury is “great for roast meat” – but the starters and desserts also win plaudits, and “there are so many beers on tap (20) to work your way through”. “Terrific quick meal before a gig, and I didn’t even get to try their signature smoked meat!”.

“Particularly good for special cuts of meat cooked to order” – a Canonbury gastropub (with garden) specialising in grills as part of a modern British menu, and “great for a winter Sunday Roast”.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
