Craft ales and on-site butchered meat combine at this “great local pub” in Islington – where the “hearty fare” is (perhaps unsurprisingly) “great for meat-lovers”. It’s “buzzy and busy”, so “expect to queue” at prime times.

“For carnivores and beer lovers”, this attractively located Islington gastroboozer butchers its own meat on site, so “always produces the best cuts, excellently cooked”. There’s a good selection of craft ales too, “but really it’s more a restaurant than a pub”, and manages to “attract, train and keep very friendly and knowledgeable waiting staff”.

“Mighty meaty matey!” – this “lovely spacious and airy Islington gastropub on the corner of one of the area’s nicest streets” is “brilliant for carnivores”, serving “generous portions of lovingly sourced meat” (which they butcher on-site), but “veggie options are superb” too, and there’s a good selection of craft beer. Top Tip – “it’s worth it just for the beef dripping and bread!”

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
