“Authentic, mostly fiery, Sichuan cooking” is showcased at this modern pub-conversion, “conveniently a few minutes’ walk along the canal from King’s Cross”. The menu includes plenty of items that in Britain used to be hidden away behind untranslated Chinese characters – chicken feet, frog legs, pig intestines – and “given the large plates, you need a big group to do it justice”.

“Prepare to numb your senses” at “one of the best Sichuan restaurants around” – this smartly modernised pub between King’s Cross and Islington serves “red-hot and authentic cuisine by the canal on Caledonian Road”. “Service is quick and friendly, the food delicious”, and “the outside deck gives a lovely view over the canal in warm weather”. Top Menu Tip – “the specials board is always worth a look – cumin lamb skewers, three treasures, pig intestine and twice-cooked pork belly are among the many stand-outs”.

“Lovely Sichuan food is served in an airy space on the Regent’s Canal” at this converted pub in the nomansland between King’s Cross and Islington. There’s “a good range of meat and vegetarian options, and more unusual options for the adventurous including the delicious dry pot pig intestines”. “Great views from the small outside deck”, too.

“Superb-if-rustic” Sichuan cuisine – “off-the-wall, especially if you aren’t accustomed to it – won instant acclaim, including amongst newspaper critics, for this yearling by Regent’s Canal: “a weird space that feels like a hastily converted pub” (which it is). Its overall ratings are middling, however, due to those who feel “the food didn’t live up to the positive reviews (Coren, Maschler…)”, or who “find the flavours a bit one-dimensional”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
