Harden's says

In Farringdon's new Hyde hotel, near the Old Bailey, an all-day restaurant inspired by the food of Istanbul from high-profile chef Selin Kiazim. Her Shoreditch spot Oklava ran for seven years and is much missed: Oklava's head chef Halil Simsek is in day-to-day charge of the kitchen, which is baking its own breads and butchering its own meat.

“A beautifully decorated dining room” together with “simple and delicious” food all “make for a special night out” at this autumn 2024 newcomer, in Farringdon’s new Hyde hotel, near the Old Bailey. It’s an all-day venue inspired by the food of Istanbul from Selin Kiazim who ran Shoreditch spot Oklava, RIP (also with Oklava’s former head chef Halil Simsek). “Mezze and small dishes are on the usual themes” and kebabs are cooked on a charcoal mangal, served with dripping pide, grilled ezme, marinated peppers and onion salad. Service “can be slightly on the lax side” and “portions aren’t big”: even so, all reports are very enthusiastic and some diners report their best meal of the year here.

"So pricey, and portions aren't big - and don't get me started on £24 for four chunks of (admittedly delicious) chicken shish - but yes, I would go and get fleeced again in order to eat the rest of the menu. Lovely room, too."

Grace Dent headed with some trepidation to a new hotel beside the Central Criminal Court (“handy if you’re a judge or celebrating winning a trial”) where Turkish-Cypriot chef Selin Kiazim has opened a follow-up to her much-loved Oklava, which closed last year.

Grace need not have worried. “Far from just another tepid hotel dining room, it’s a whirlwind of a restaurant that aims to incapacitate with kindness”, full of “boho flourishes” and “art-deco twinkles” that “makes you feel like Greta Garbo on a day off from filming in Istanbul”. 

The food is a good match for the “gorgeous” space. At lunch there are 12 different meze – “please, please order the muhamarra” – and the ‘Leydi Deluxe’ greatest hits set menu is “exceptional value” at £50 a head. There are chicken shish and lamb adana that you might find in any Turkish spot in London, “but here they came on a raised plinth of fat-soaked pide and marinated peppers, as well as a buttered rice pilau topped with caramelised onions”.
