“A reliable chain – mainly in the City” – these big, affordable Turks are popular “especially for lunch” and provide a relatively comfortable environment for a sit-down meal that’s a little different. Cynical reports were more in evidence this year though: critics feel “they know they will get the office trade and don’t really try” (“downhill since I visited a few years ago” with some “bland and unseasoned” dishes).

“Fresh food and an affordable set menu for lunch” are prime attractions of this cheap ’n’ cheerful Turkish chain – a fixture after more than two decades in the City, where there are now five branches, plus a more recent pan-Mediterranean spinoff in Covent Garden, Olea Social.

“Good mezze and grilled meat” help tick the boxes for “delicious food that is not expensive” at this Turkish business with five branches in the City – making them suitable “for business or social occasions” (although they can be “noisy”). In summer 2023, the group made its West End debut with the opening of Olea Social in Covent Garden, with a more general Mediterranean focus.

“Super-fresh” food, including “especially good starters and mezze”, “friendly service” and “very good value for money” are the hallmarks of this “very good Turkish chain in the City”. There’s also a “large range of vegetarian dishes”. The six branches are all heaving at lunchtime, but “St Paul’s is the most spacious, in a great setting near the cathedral and much quieter too, especially at the weekends”.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
