The hugely hyped offshoot of a famous Harlem NYC soulfood kitchen, from Ethiopian-Swedish celebrity chef, Marcus Samuelsson has failed to catch fire in Shoreditch. Some reporters like it – “a foodie dream” – but too many find it a “deep disappointment” (although “Sunday lunch is worth a visit for the live entertainment”).

“The food is decent (the whole fried chicken with a sparkler looks impressive when it comes out) but doesn’t live up to the hype” is the overall verdict on Ethiopian-Swedish chef, Marcus Samuelsson’s soul-food-via-Scandinavia yearling: the London sibling to the hugely popular Harlem original, at the foot of Shoreditch’s Curtain hotel. It has “a clubby (very noisy) vibe and nice live music”.

Ethiopian-Swedish chef, Marcus Samuelsson brings his southern-soul-food-via-Scandinavia cuisine to the eclectically decorated basement of an oh-so-hip Shoreditch boutique hotel and members club. It opened in mid 2017 – early press feedback is positive.
