Harden's says
Brighton's zero-waste restaurant Silo has moved to London after a half-million-pound crowdfund by chef Doug McMaster.
Harden's survey result
Summary
Very limited feedback (but all of it upbeat) for Douglas McMaster’s more-eco-than-eco, zero-waste project, above Crate in Hackney Wick’s canalside White Building, which – in its drive for ‘quality through purity’ and ‘a more primitive diet… born from clean farming’ serves a menu of wacky, meat-free small plates and very off-piste wines.
Summary
Douglas McMaster’s zero-waste project in grungily groovy Hackney Wick opened at a tough time and although it’s attracted awards and adulatory reviews (e.g. from Jimi Famurewa in The Evening Standard) in its early days, there’s very little survey feedback (or indeed social buzz on other sites). It’s a place no eco-warrior should miss, though, churning its own butter, milling ancient grains, making crockery and tables from reconstituted materials, etc. His Brighton site used to do well – more reports, please.
Summary
Due to land in October, Brighton’s zero-waste restaurant Silo is coming to London after a half-million-pound crowdfund by chef Doug McMaster. With a similar eco-gourmet formula to the original, it’s going to occupy the first floor of Crate, Hackney Wick’s grungily-groovy pizza-and-microbrewery haunt, near the Olympic Park.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Silo Restaurant Diner Reviews
" Wow! Every dish has a story to tell and some of them are especially yummy! The roasted celeriac so delicious and tender. Sitting at the ‘bar’ you get an excellent view of the kitchen mechanics creating the dishes. Pumpkin sublime and the hen of the woods delicious. The whole dining experience from source to fork is explained. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. A unique dining experience in fact a gift, ours was and greatly enjoyed. "
