Harden's survey result
Summary
“It’s so fun being on board a boat!” – this 120-year-old barge is moored in Hackney Wick, near the Olympic stadium, and is also surrounded by gardens providing an alternative backdrop to a meal. All reports agree on its “fantastic food and atmosphere”: there are a variety of menus, including tasting and group options, all featuring imaginative modern British dishes.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Barge East Restaurant Diner Reviews
"I loved our meal here - the concept is brilliant, with the interior of the barge turned into a cheerful dining room, and unusual dishes based on fish and foods grown in a kitchen garden by the barge. The service was friendly and helpful. So I would have given high marks for everything till I got the bill. £210 for two of us, only £45 of which was alcohol. It just wasn't of a calibre to justify that price. Part of the issue was that the dishes were so minute that when one found a particularly good one one instantly ordered another of the same, having devoured the first helping in one bite. "
"Absolutely fantastic! One of the most unique settings that i've been lucky enough to have dinner in. A short walk from the local overground station, situation on the river/canal in Hackney Wick - whole area has a very cool Berlin vibe. Charming and welcoming staff, fabulous food, presented beautifully, the staff happy to explain and go over dishes with you. Thoughtfully sourced and delicious too! We would recommend the Ox Cheek and Market Fish. plus the potato terrine. Interesting cocktail and wine lists as well. We took a walk in their gardens and stopped from drinks after dinner on the deck of the boat."
