Harden's survey result
Summary
This “outstanding” four-year-old is an “engaging but cramped little venue” whose “absolute bargain of a menu” from co-owner Johnnie Crow (ex-Harwood Arms and Anglo), makes it “well worth the trip up to Hackney (booking essential!)”. The meal is structured around one type of meat each month – chicken, game, wagyu – to minimise waste, and “service is personal, enthusiastic and charming”. “You’re unlikely to find much better value in town, with some truly stellar dishes given the mid-range price-point”.
Summary
This intimate (just 7 tables) Hackney gem opened in 2018 and was inexplicably left out of our last edition. It certainly rates mention – chef and co-owner Johnnie Crowe (ex Harwood Arms and Anglo) delivers some delectable, small plates from a seasonal tasting menu. The endearing no-waste ethos incorporates a focus on a single meat for six weeks at a time.
For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

NEST Restaurant Diner Reviews

"Strict adherence to a schedule of either a very early or very late start to allow just two sittings for their tasting menu make this place a bit of a nightmare. In the end after 3 visits we decided that the difficulty in parking then having to take a bus back to the restaurant was just too much hassle. "

"Nest offers only a single set “taster” menu at a time and runs these for around 6 weeks before changing. We had the Game Season menu which turned out to be an absolutely wonderful meal from start to finish, the only slight criticism I would make is that they served the Wood Pigeon Faggot with a dipping sauce which was quite a distinct flavour immediately before the much more delicately flavoured Cod. We would have preferred it the other way around as per the published menu! We opted to add some shavings of summer truffles to the Grouse but didn’t think that they added anything extra to underlying dish. The service is very informal and with so many courses to get through in 1.75 hrs it has to be extremely prompt after each dish, and so it was. Hence it is an ideal place for foodie couples like ourselves and not for someone who wishes to impress his guest with his/her sparkling conversation. We would have preferred a little more light than was available. Our only regret is that we didn’t discover Nest a lot sooner, and we will be back as soon as the menu changes at the beginning of November."

"One of the best neighbourhood restaurants in London, consistently over-delivering on value. Nest creates dishes out of a tiny kitchen that puts a lot better-known places to shame, and the menu, centered around using as much of one main ingredient as possible and changing every few weeks, is always creative and thought-provoking. Personal, friendly service rounds off the experience."
