“Still the best Turkish BBQ in town”, say fans of the original Mangal grill that put Dalston on the carnivore’s map. “I’ve been coming here for over 20 years and it’s still one of my all-time favourite restaurants. Never fails with great food and excellent service”. BYO helps keep the costs down.

“The best shish kebabs”“juicy”, “melt-in-the-mouth tender” – all cooked in “the marble-clad pit in the middle of the room” are “the genuine article” and have won renown for this Turkish grill in Dalston. And it’s “good value” too, aided by the fact that you can BYO. “After 20 years I still go here every week, and it never fails to impress!”

“Absolutely the best kebabs this side of Istanbul” have turned this Turkish grill into a “Dalston institution” over 20 years. “Exceptional meat from the barbecue” is backed up by “good salads and BYO (keeping the price down)”. “Despite the proliferation of Mangal offshoots, the Arcola street original is still the best!”

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Sublime turkish/kurdish barbecues. Often imitated never beaten, positively reviewed internationaly (NYT Jerusalem Post) and by top London chef's (Ottolenghi, Oliver, Clark. Great value-a meal for two for the price of a single course elsewhere. Superb wine as the BYO policy means that you can bring along the best bottle from your own cellar!"
