Breaking news

December 2021: Home has relocated from Kirkgate where it began in 2017, to a striking circular building - with central open kitchen - beside the River Aire on Brewery Wharf. Liz Cottam and Mark Owens are still in charge here, serving up no-choice tasting menus of eight or ten courses.

“The new venue” and “absolutely brilliant menu” have “really taken things up a level” at Elizabeth Cottam’s five-year-old venture, now in the city centre at Brewery Wharf on the River Aire. “The interior is very sexy and intimate, while the food has just gone up a notch”, with “an astonishing set of dishes”.

“We keep going back, it’s so good!” – Elizabeth Cottam (a former MasterChef semi-finalist) has found a strong local following for her four-year-old venue, where the ‘short’ tasting menu runs to 8-courses (for £70) and the 10-course version is £90. It is venturing to a new home, however, moving in November 2021 out of Kirkgate to a new, larger unit at Brewery Wharf in the city centre, complete with waterside terrace (overlooking the River Aire). (We have removed ratings for the time being, given the relocation).

“Exceptional cooking” and “innovative seasonal dishes” win a lot of ardent fans for Mark Owens (ex-Gavroche and Box Tree) and Elizabeth Cottam’s three-year-old, on Leeds’s oldest street, which they hail as a “low-key but high-class addition to the local restaurant scene”. It doesn’t universally impress reporters, however, and there is also a sceptical school of thought that “the food is pretty, but not always big on taste”.

“Exceptional cooking” and “innovative seasonal dishes” win a lot of ardent fans for Mark Owens (ex-Gavroche and Box Tree) and Elizabeth Cottam’s two-year-old, on Leeds’s oldest street, which they hail as a “low-key but high-class addition to the local restaurant scene”. It doesn’t universally impress reporters, however, and there is also a sceptical school of thought that “the food is pretty, but not always big on taste”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
