Harden's says
Yorkshire chef Sam Pullan and his partner Nicole Deighton leased this space in 2020 and found the old cafe name underneath the more recent restaurant sign, so they kept the name and revived the traditional menu along with their own.

Summary
“Intimate and incredible” – Sam Pullan and Nicole Deighton’s lovingly restored ‘Cafe, Bar, and Wall of Flame Rotisserie’ channels the late Victorian vibes of its namesake on this site to deliver a thoroughly 21st-century formula, mixing an “ever-changing menu” of “innovative” bites incorporating small plates, and chicken from the rotisserie, plus “wonderful drinks”.
For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

The Empire Café Restaurant Diner Reviews
"The signature rotisserie chicken was all it is cracked up to be. moist well flavoured with a very good sauce. A starter of "duck eclair" was excellent. Seating was remarkably uncomfortable. "
