Richard and Lindsey Johns, the powerhouse team of two behind Rascills in Raskelf (RIP), have bought this village inn (formerly known as The Malt Shovel); they opened the pub and restaurant on 31 July 2019, with guest rooms following within a year. "Modern British classics" with Sunday roasts will be on the menu.

The Hovingham Inn Restaurant Diner Reviews
"This was my wife and myself' s first visit to the Hovingham's for Sunday lunch, it most certainly wont be the last, If there is a better Sunday lunch in East/ North Yorkshire we are yet to find it, Great venue, Courteous and efficient staff, Great Food and Cask ales. Good value wine section. The Roast Pork and the Beef were cooked to perfection, Vegetables as we like them, My wife had the freshly made Scotch eggs for a starter and I had the white onion and cider soup with freshly home made Focaccia bread, were superb. Looking at their midweek menu it cant be long until this place and the owners get the recognition they deserve. We stayed over in a Hotel 100 yards down the road and will do the same again to fully enjoy the restaurants fine food and drinks. Cant Wait to visit again We can highly recommend this venue. Gary & Julie. Date of visit: August 2020"
"Third time of visiting the Hovingham Inn, since opening. We first became aware of Richard & Lindsey when they had Rascills. Food & service was always top draw, although we suspected the location would always be a formidable challenge. To the Hovingham Inn. Absolutely first class in what has been done to the place & only ten minutes from where we live. Again the food & service has picked up from where it was left off. Excellent experiences from start to finish. Price level is superb considering the quality. Sunday lunch is a must do. Better than what what the Johns were doing over at Rascills. In our humble opinion Ryedale has new star in its midst."
