A Gallic outpost on Gilesgate – this “favourite” local dining spot has a menu of classics from rural France – owner Greg Bureau, a second-generation restaurateur from the Loire Valley, brings a further stamp of authenticity.
“Like a small part of France” – this popular Gallic “relaxed venture in the centre of Hexham” is a key destination locally providing “good cooking of a bistro standard and a very Gallic welcome”. “It’s the kind of place everyone would love to have just around the corner from home”.
“Like stepping into a restaurant in the heart of France” – a solid northern venture combining “agreeable” bistro fare and superior service (“the staff could not have been more attentive, and the maître d’ was extremely knowledgeable”).
Bouchon Bistrot Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Yet another time when I wish you used a scale of 10 rather than 5. I'd rate this as more than the 3 it has at present, but maybe not quite 4. We spend one night in Hexham en route to Scotland and ate here, a very nice surprise in a part of the world that hasn't been totally impressive food-wise in the past. Nice French restaurant, not cutting edge but nothing to really criticise. From the early bird menu (available until 9pm early in the week) salt cod fritters and slow-cooked belly pork were fine and excellent value. From the main menu chili salt squid with tabbouleh was excellent as was a veggie dish based loosely on ratatouille. Desserts very nice, and wine and coffee ok. Service couldn't be faulted, friendly helpful and efficient."
