The well-established Roux-branded operation at this well-known, Lutyens-designed country house hotel (bordering Muirfield golf course, and looking towards the Firth of Forth) attracted only limited feedback this year, but all was upbeat: “really high class cuisine showing good attention to detail – quite expensive but well worth it!”

This “beautiful” Lutyens-designed Arts & Crafts country house hotel, on the edge of a championship golf course, is reputed for its “superb” afternoon teas (“taken early not to spoil your dinner”), although the restaurant, overseen by the famous Albert, also turns out “first-class” meals.

“Brilliant, friendly, personal service and excellent cuisine” help the dining room of this posh Lutyens-designed country house hotel do justice to the Roux brand. It’s a favourite afternoon tea spot too: “expensive but worth it… and you get to play croquet!”
