“One of the best views in the world” (if you don't mind Newcastle’s urban sprawl) elevates a visit to this posh art gallery restaurant. It dodged the usual critiques it has often received last year, and although even some fans concede that “there is better-value food to be had in the city”, it was consistently well-rated (“creative without being silly”).

“Beautiful views” over the Tyne to Newcastle are the major calling card of this upscale art gallery restaurant. It’s a consistently inconsistent destination though – the food can be “mediocre” and service “haphazard”.

“Super views” are the key draw to this sixth-floor dining room “looking down the Tyne and across to Newcastle on the other side of the river”; there’s a “Conran-ish focus on everything looking good and making you feel great, but the underlying food is average”, bar the odd “interesting” dish, and can be “very slow in arriving”.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
