Harden's survey result
Summary
“New management are making an impact” according to reports on this well-known coaching inn, not far from the A1, which was taken over in January 2021 by father-and-daughter owners, Jonathan & Sarah Morris. The food from 2018 MasterChef: The Professionals competitor, Chris McPhee, is consistently well-rated: “if you missed the old ‘GT’ in its heyday, make a return visit: you will not be disappointed!”
Summary
This “quaint dining pub with lots of atmosphere” was smartly refurbed last year by new father-and-daughter owners Jonathan & Sarah Morris, and “is making a promising start under its new management”. It offers an “interesting”, globally inspired menu, and provides 15 rooms for overnight stays. Former owners John & Claire Topham ran the well-known Nidderdale venue for 24 years.
Summary
This “welcoming” and “very reliable” pub-with-rooms has a kitchen that “goes from strength to strength” by most – if not quite all – accounts, and its location, just off the A1 and close to Harrogate, makes it a handy stop-off or rendezvous.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
