Harden's survey result
Summary
Overlooking the Exe Estuary and Lyme Bay, this maritime-inspired newcomer is the latest opening from famous chef and restaurateur Michael Caines. Open all day from breakfast, seven days a week (and with a takeaway option), it’s focused on simple seafood (moules mariniere, smoked salmon mousse, fish & chips, Lobster thermidor, Goan-inspired seafood curry) and plenty of BBQ options too. There’s a sizeable outside terrace, with retractable glass roof. On the ground floor, a more casual bar menu includes hot dogs and pizza. The bill strikes some reporters as a bit “eye-watering” (“it’s a cafe but with close to fine-dining prices!)”. All agree however that the cooking is “good quality” (or better), and it’s “great fun, near a lovely beach”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
