More praise this year for the Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s dining room, on the first floor of a Georgian townhouse in the city-centre, which serves a choice of menus (including a veggie option). “Despite being a huge whisky fan, my husband was unsure about going for the five-course tasting menu with matched whiskies but he was glad he did: flavour combinations worked really well – smoky whisky with smoked haddock, sweeter whisky with rabbit and carrot, and a honeyed whisky to go with dessert (to name but a few – all cask strength too!)”.

This year-old relaunch of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s dining room on the first floor of its Georgian townhouse HQ was named AA Scottish Restaurant of the Year in September 2017. Our survey feedback is limited but extremely positive praising “consistently imaginative tasty food and great value for money”. There’s a short à la carte here of which the most impressive feature is the cheeseboard, or a £75 taster menu (including a wine or whisky match at each stage).

For 29 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
