Looking for a pub meal to escape from London? Head to this atmospheric and tastefully renovated Georgian gastropub, just off J1 of the M40, in the cutest of cute Home Counties villages (complete with small outside terrace garden in summer). The straightforward food is not aiming to ‘push the envelope’ but it’s dependably well-realised. Top Tip – grab any parking space you can find: finding a spot a nightmare.
Possibly the first genuine country pub off the A/M40 as you leave London, this Georgian coaching inn-turned-smart-village-gastroboozer is an understandable “favourite” for numerous reporters – “popular and crowded”, with some “delicious” food and “especially lovely when sitting outside”.
“Very easy to get to from London, and nice to walk around the pretty village afterwards” – no wonder this gastroboozer (near the A40/M25 intersection), equipped with a pleasant garden, is so “popular and crowded” (“especially for Sunday lunch”); this year there were particular bouquets for the “delicious soufflés both savoury and sweet”.
“Popular, welcoming and atmospheric” gastroboozer whose “imaginative dishes” are “a cut or two above the usual pub food”; “a very enjoyable destination for Sunday lunch, with a large garden for summer days, and a beautiful village to explore, even though it’s so close to London” (near the A40/M25 junction).
Feel right at home as soon as you step through the door…
Our delightful dining room and bar area is inviting and cosy, especially with the log fire roaring in those chillier months (You may spot Tucker keeping warm here…) For those sunnier, warmer days, our beautiful, large garden and secluded terrace area are pretty much perfect. Enjoy outdoor dining whilst the little ones have a ball.
Everything on our menus is freshly made in our kitchen and changes in line with the seasons. We always use the best local produce that we can get our hands on. In fact — If you think your veggies are top of the crops, please bring them along — we accept them as currency! (We’re totally serious)
From our well stocked bar, we serve a selection of great real ales and lagers, IPA being our local rebellion ale, alongside a good range of soft drinks and organic juices. Our wine list is carefully sourced (certainly not the worst job in the world) and features boutique wineries — producing an exciting and individual list, with many wines served by the glass.
If it’s your own little space you require for that business get together or meal with family and friends, our private dining room is the perfect area… Please just speak to us about your requirements.
So, if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the town and city and relax with wonderful food and drink, our lovely pub should be your first stop…
We look forward to welcoming you soon!
