Harden's says

The owners of this Kentish seaside town newcomer (serving rustic, classic French fare from ever-changing blackboards) run Le Pinardier, a wine shop and bar, also in Deal.

This “fantastic little bistro hidden away in Deal” is “well worth trying” for the “very high standard of its classic French cooking” – although there is some pushback against its “London prices”. Owner-operators Benoit & Sarah (respectively the Frog and the Scot) also run Le Pinardier wine shop and bar a few doors away.

“A high standard of French brasserie food and a good selection of wines” make this “lovely local” from Benoit and Sarah (the Frog and Scot of its name) a “breath of fresh air in Deal on the Kent coast”. But, even if they acknowledge the food as being “very good”, a sizable minority feel they are paying haute cuisine bills for bistro food – that “prices are out of sync”, or even “exploitative”.

This “very good bistro” serves “metropolitan-quality cooking of local and seasonal ingredients (especially seafood)”“on the high street of a charming (and currently chic) seaside town”. It’s “light and spacious”, with “friendly and efficient service” and a “good-value lunch menu”. Owners Benoit and Sarah – embodying the ‘Auld Alliance’ of France and Scotland – also run Le Pinardier wine bar almost next door, which explains the “original list” of classics and natural/bio wines.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
