Summary

In beautiful Sussex countryside, this “superb” Elizabethan country house hotel makes a “romantic” retreat from ‘the smoke’, “with a wonderful dining room and rooms that are to die for”. One former fan had a poor visit here this year, but the majority of feedback lauds Steve Crane’s accomplished cuisine (there’s an à la carte, or choice of six- and seven-course tasting menus).

Summary

There’s still the odd sceptic, for whom the cooking is “competent” rather than outstanding, but this Elizabethan country house hotel continues to please most of those who comment on it thanks to its “brilliant and original food, served in comfort and style”.

Summary

The odd long-term fan of this Elizabethan country house hotel feels it “has not sustained its high standards” of late, but it nevertheless remains consistently well-rated, and at its best offers “superb classic cooking”.

Summary

No one doubts this is a “pleasant” country house hotel, and it is consistently decently rated; prices aren’t cheap however and the food is “good… but no more”“how they got a Michelin star I don’t know!”
