Adebola Adeshina’s dining operation in the surroundings of THe Fitzwilliam Arms didn’t attract a huge volume of feedback this year for this thatched pub, but all to the effect that it’s one of the brighter culinary sparks in these parts. “Amuse bouche was very well flavoured cod and salmon dish… the starter a perfectly cooked scallop, main pigeon cooked exactly as it should be, plus gravy with extraordinary depth of flavour…”.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Very nicely decorated old inn in lovely village. Food was beautifully presented but could have had more depth of flavour."

"It look great, both the building and the food. (Toilets are amongst the nicest for while!). However it seems to be a lot about appearances rather than the food. We had the lunch menu (£100 overall for 2 with one glass of wine). One advantage of a menu is that you get bread rather than paying up to £6 extra! Every course looked picture perfect but the taste lacked the follow through. Beetroot and trout starters followed by hake all lacked bite. Dessert was a peach thing. Charged us for tap water...£3.5 perhaps a mistake?"

"I’ve just dined here for the first time with my family and we were all blown away with how fabulous it was- the service was first class, food from the tasting menu was a masterpiece, the setting was beautiful and staff were an absolute delight. We are very hard to please as a family but each one of us said it was the best meal we’ve had in years and we couldn’t find one criticism between us, this restaurant deserves more recognition. Highly recommended for a lucullan repast!"
