John & Ceri Cook’s buzzy contemporary bistro in Pontcanna garners praise for its “excellent food and service” and “lovely atmosphere” too; however, perhaps owing to the site’s pedigree – it was for many years Le Gallois (RIP) – the odd reporter was “expecting a more interesting menu”.

On the site some still remember as Le Gallois (long RIP), John and Ceri Cook’s “stark” no-tablecloth venture occupies a Pontcanna site long associated with being one of the city’s top eating options. Some feedback this year was of the “OK but nothing special” variety, however.
