Harden's survey result
John & Ceri Cook’s buzzy contemporary bistro in Pontcanna garners praise for its “excellent food and service” and “lovely atmosphere” too; however, perhaps owing to the site’s pedigree – it was for many years Le Gallois (RIP) – the odd reporter was “expecting a more interesting menu”.
On the site some still remember as Le Gallois (long RIP), John and Ceri Cook’s “stark” no-tablecloth venture occupies a Pontcanna site long associated with being one of the city’s top eating options. Some feedback this year was of the “OK but nothing special” variety, however.
John and Ceri Cook run this contemporary (no table cloths) venture in Pontcanna; its name means ‘special’ in Welsh, which on reporters’ ratings is appropriate for its accomplished modern British cuisine, with a strong emphasis on local sourcing.
