Summary

Darren & Ella Lovell have raided the former Ottoman Empire to create a good-value menu of “vibrant, tasty and imaginative Middle Eastern dishes”. It’s opposite the Tobacco Factory, so “great for pre-theatre dining” – the only quibble is that sometimes it’s “too popular for its own good: amiable but cramped”. There’s now a branch in Clifton that also sells hard-to-find ingredients.

Summary

A good “cheap ’n’ cheerful” pre- or post-theatre venue for The Tobacco Factory opposite – Darren & Ella Lovell’s acclaimed street food spot offers an adventurous menu cherry-picking from the whole ex-Ottoman Empire (with “very good vegetarian” options in particular). A Clifton sibling, which also sells supplies, opened a few years back.

Summary

With its “interesting mix of dishes” and “bold” flavours, this Persian street food venue, opposite The Tobacco Factory, has built up a strong local following over the past few years; owners Darren & Ella Lovell recently opened a new Clifton sibling on the site of their popular former haunt, Rucola.

Summary

Opposite the Tobacco Theatre, this “bright and busy” spot “looks like just another small, neighbourhood restaurant”, but the “whopping flavours” of its “excellent, authentic cuisine sets it head-and-shoulders above an average Middle Eastern venue”.

"Delicious middle eastern vegetarian dishes available although the restaurant also serves meat. Pleasant service. Relaxed family feel. The restaurant can be noisy."
