Feedback is limited but remains enthusiastic for this “very welcoming” dining room – part of a relatively new townhouse hotel, in one of Bath’s cuter pedestrianised enclaves (and occupying a house dating back to the 1400s). “The menu is well thought out, changes often, is enjoyable, and caters well to veggies and non-veggies alike”.

On one of the super-cutest pedestrian cut-throughs of this gorgeous town (near Sally Lunn’s), this “lovely” new townhouse hotel (named for its eight bedrooms) opened in August 2018, and was one of the most talked-about arrivals of last year in these parts. Chef Fred Lavault offers “very enjoyable modern cuisine in a small plates format” from a “simple 8-8-8 menu that’s excellent and well-presented”.

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Impressed by the beautiful presentation of dishes at this restaurant, part of a small boutique hotel as central as it can be in Bath. Menu interesting and mostly good although over salting of a fish dish reared it’s ugly head here. Portions are most definitely on the slimmer’s side of generous though. The Italian Sangiovese wine went down particularly well."
