1. Cafe Fish Tobermory
Fish & seafood restaurant in Tobermory
The Pier - PA75
This no-frills outfit – est. 2006 by Jane Gill and chef Liz McGougan atop the former CalMac ferry office – has long been of note for its “fantastic fish selection”, which spans shellfish platters, fish stew and Mull oysters — some of which is sourced by ‘The Highlander’, their in-house boat. Whatever you go for, it’s “all perfectly cooked”, and accompanied by bracing views beyond the pier and out to sea, especially if you sit on the terrace.
2. Mingary Castle
British, Modern restaurant in Kilchoan
No feedback this year on this 13th-century castle complete with portcullis down a single-track road and overlooking the Atlantic from the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. The dining room – under chef-patron Colin Nicholson – has inspired excellent reviews in past surveys, but it’s probably as an overall dine-and-stay package rather than just for its cuisine that you’d seek the establishment out (and it has won a slew of awards as a Restaurant with Rooms and four-star hotel from the AA and Good Hotel Guide). Reports please!
