2022 Review: Soho House’s relatively new motel concept (which now also has a sibling in Bristol) aims at the affordable staycation market and incorporates a modern take on the classic US diner into its offering, complete with retro Americana and brunch-friendly dishes. Too few reports for a rating as yet, but the odd bit of feedback about “great burgers”.

2024 Review: No reports as yet on this modern retread of an ancient village boozer in the Oxfordshire countryside. It’s a new showcase for the ‘elevated gastro-pub cooking’ of chef Nathan Richardson, who took over the property from former tenants of 15 years’ standing and who previously worked at Mayfair’s acclaimed Guinea Grill. You can eat in the bar (80 covers) or the restaurant (40 covers).

In October 2024, Sam & Georgie Pearman added this newly refurbished ancient pub to their local empire which also includes the luxuriously refurbished ‘Double Red Duke’ across the road. Neither its older sibling nor this newcomer attracted feedback in our diners’ poll this year, but in his November 2024 review, The Times’s Giles Coren tootled out of the smoke to applaud a “bang-on-the-money modern country pub which is folksier than the Duke, more muscular in the menu, and thus even more my sort of thing” – “weary satirists might call the style ‘Notting-Hill-on-the-Wold’”, but Giles is not convinced that’s the right way round.
