Summary
“What a surprise! Not normally a hotel restaurant fan but this broke the mold” – so says one Surrey-based fan of this appropriately, er, grand dining room: the culinary centre-piece of the city’s only five-star hotel (complete with 207 rooms and spa), whose building was constructed in 1906 as the HQ for the North Eastern Railway. Fans applaud the “warm service and beautifully prepared food from three tasting menus for £100, £115 and £130 per person with optional wine flights” (dubbed ‘Stone’, ‘Water’ and ‘Steel’) – more reports please!
For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
