“Amazingly priced lobsters” and other “beautifully cooked fresh seafood” are consumed in a “perfect setting” at this shack at the far end of the harbour, operated by the Whitstable Oyster Company, which farms oysters and catches native lobsters in season from its own boats in the waters in front of you. There’s an “amazing atmosphere” – and a wood-burning stove for meals inside during colder months.

“Just about the best lobster and fries I’ve ever had – for under £20!” – the appeal of this good-value spot “well hidden” by Whitstable harbour, with outdoor tables overlooking the sea. They excel by serving line-caught fish and local shellfish “just kept simple”. Just one quibble last year: “why no puddings?”. Sister venue the Oyster Shed is nearby.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
