Harden's survey result
North Yorks star-chef, Andew Pern’s hometown venture is a conversion of the old tourist information centre, on the harbour. Most reporters do praise the “delightful” fresh fish, and “really enjoy the setting”, but one or two sceptics feel that, despite foodie hype, “mediocrity reigns”, and it inspires relatively limited feedback for a business from a ‘big name’.
This fish-based venture is the latest from North Yorkshire star-chef Andrew Pern (of Harome fame), in the former tourist information centre of his home town, by the harbour-side. He’s created a “marvellous”, “very buzzy” space in a “cracking location”, but as with his other recent openings, food and service receive a more mixed scorecard – to fans “well-cooked and extremely fresh fish and seafood”, but to foes “woeful and bigged up beyond belief by sycophantic food hacks”. A fair middle view? – “None of the food was bad, and some was great. However, it feels like a franchise; it does not feel like the proprietor is around, or cares”.
