Hosts Paul and Nichola ran Vienna restaurant in Farnham for over 30 years before moving to this stunning 15th century inn, where freshly caught fish and seafood from Portsmouth are still the highlight. An inglenook fireplace for winter and spacious beer garden for summer make it a good place to know about in the area, between Bsingstoke and Farnham.
Harden's survey result
“A rejuvenated country inn” in “a lovely rural setting”; “slightly cluttered and traditionally old fashioned” – it “serves generous portions of well-prepared food from a short daily menu” in its restaurant and “local ales” in the bar.
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

The Chequers Inn Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Food was nice, lots of lovely fish options to suit the whole group. We were seated in the 'outside' area - which was a bit chilly with the front door opening and closing as people arrived - would have liked rugs or similar maybe. Service wasn't great - we were forgotten for quite a while when trying to order food, and then choose wine. A shame that whilst we had said we were celebrating a birthday on the booking, they'd also forgotten that."
